Today’s libraries are not just for books, computers and magazines – the Port Jervis Free Library now has its own geocache! In geocaching, participants obtain the location of a geocache from a geocaching website www.geocaching.com, use a GPS to arrive in the area of the cache, and then follow clues or simply hunt for the cache. There are nearly 500 caches waiting to be found within a 10 mile radius of our library alone!
Libraries and geocaching seem to be made for each other. First, and I believe most importantly, they create a means of uniting the virtual and the real worlds, allowing people to explore both the library building and its resources. Second, they engage people and create community through real life experiences, such as the sudden discovery of a new idea or place that can be transformative. Third, they have a wide appeal across age groups and allow for family or team co-operation and interaction. Come by the Port Jervis Free Library and give the sport of Geocaching a try!

GARDINER NY IS A HOT SPOT FOR ART
Two Days – 50 Artists, Artisans and Craftsmen – Free and Fabulous Progressive Gardiner Art Crawl. Explore the fine arts, delightful crafts, artisan goods, locally sourced food, beer and spirits. Something for everyone!
May 8, 2017 – Gardiner, New York – Conceptualized by the creator of the Sunflower Art Festival, artist and community organizer, Liz Glover Wilson (of Sunflower Art Studios), introduces the Gardiner Art Crawl (www.gardinerartcrawl.com) – a FREE, self-guided series of art events showcasing the artistic creativity and talents of our local artists, artisans and craftsmen. The events – part of a collaborative marketing initiative – bring together three local art events by Gardiner Open Studio Tours, Gardiner Association of Business and Sunflower Art Studios. The events are designed for all tastes; from live music to locally sourced gift shops to farm fresh food to a unique behind the scenes experience in local artists’ studios. Join us on Saturday and Sunday, June 3-4, 2017 in Gardiner – nestled under the beautiful Shawangunk Ridge area of Ulster County in the Hudson Valley.
“Gardiner, NY is a hot spot for ART, CREATIVITY and LOCALLY SOURCED GOODS!” says Liz Glover Wilson, of Sunflower Art Studios in Gardiner – a 501c3 non-profit dedicated to bringing awareness and accessibility to the arts. “The Gardiner Art Crawl –
an orchestrated collaboration – gives visitors two days of art, music and food events; providing a diverse sampling of the creative options in our town.”
“My ceramic pieces are a response to the inventiveness and skill of folk artisans. As an inveterate traveler, I have sought out creativity in places like Mexico, Central America and those untrained, but immensely skilled village artists worldwide,” says Annie O’Neill, a local resident, artist and one of 25 participants in the Gardiner Open Studio Tour.
“I wanted to revive the Gardiner Association of Businesses and show the Hudson Valley how incredibly talented the businesses in Gardiner are, and be able to give back to the community in a really big way,” says Lucia Civile, Co-Founder of LACE Photo Media and current President of the Gardiner Association of Businesses.
The Gardiner Art Crawl concept is simple – come to Gardiner NY and drive, walk and enjoy a rich variety of music, food, and art. Meet artists, artisans and craftsmen.
Visit Sunflower Art Studios at 2694 Rte 44/55 and be one of the first to visit this NEW 3,800sf art, yoga, wellness and retreat center for an art show, gift shop, live music and food. Come see what the children of creative kids have created and join in the fun with a day of kid-friendly art activities.
Then pick up a tour map at Sunflower Art Studios or DM Weill Art Gallery, 208 Bruynswick Road (also available online) for the Gardiner Open Studio Tour (GOST) and visit artists in their own work-spaces. Take advantage of this unique experience to get “up close and personal” with contemporary paintings; utilitarian pottery or whimsical clay creations; abstract photography; felted toys and wearables; wall hangings; and digitally manipulated work that will make you rethink the wild world of art! Lose yourself in landscapes created with oil, acrylics and pastels.
Continue your “Art Crawl” and don’t miss a community shopping, food, and fun event in the Hamlet of Gardiner on Saturday, June 3. Peruse through a one mile Craft Market Walk stretching from the Gardiner Library, to the Farmer’s Market Grounds, across the Gardiner Rail Trail and onto the Yard Owl Craft Brewery! Enjoy handmade jewelry, vintage furniture, all-natural skincare, herbal remedies, farmhouse pottery, up-cycled clothing, small batch spirits, craft beer, local wine and all-day music, raffles and activities all along the way. This event is sponsored by the Gardiner Association of Businesses (GAB) and highlights a variety of local vendors.
Gardiner is located in the beautiful Shawangunk Ridge area of Ulster County in the Hudson Valley and an easy day-trip from Manhattan.

**About Sunflower Art Studios**
Opened in 2015, we are a 501c3 non-profit arts organization. We are committed to bringing visibility to the arts in the Mid-Hudson Valley and seek to create experiences for the community and collaborate with a broad scope of local artisans. We work to provide art classes for children and adults and will be offering other creative experiences, classes and workshops throughout the year. We have community creative space located in Gardiner, NY; find us at www.sunflowerartstudios.community.
**About Gardiner Open Studio Tour**
The beauty of the Hudson Valley has energized awe-inspiring art for generations. And the village of Gardiner and the surrounding area is home to an abundance of talent: painters, potters, ceramic artists, sculptors, woodworkers, photographers, digital artists and more. Unlike art centers, we’re not surrounded by steel and concrete, but mountains, lakes, trails and forests. Each new Tour in the spring brings new work and new experiences.
**Gardiner Association of Businesses**
The Gardiner Association of Businesses (GAB) is a network for the Gardiner area business community. Run by small business owners, people who both live and work here, we know the town of Gardiner, NY inside and out and we want others to get to know it just as well.
